As one of Apra's newer chapters, Apra Canada was established on March 2, 2001. Since then, our membership base has grown from 80 to over 200, with members spanning from the Eastern shores of the Atlantic, all the way over to the West Coast.

To learn more about the history of Apra and prospect research in Canada, as written by Apra members and other fundraising professionals, we encourage you to read Prospect Research in Canada: An Essential Guide for Researchers and Fundraisers.

The launch of Prospect Research in Canada: An Essential Guide for Researchers and Fundraisers coincided with the 15th anniversary of Apra Canada! Intended for fundraisers and researchers just starting out with prospect research, this book is an invaluable resource for those needing to establish training and guidelines for their organization or educational programs. It also offers a wealth of information for those from the private sector who realize the unique skill sets required to successfully conduct research in Canada.

"Book Cover: Prospect Research in Canada: An Essential Guide for Researchers and Fundraisers"An excerpt:

"Throughout the 1990s, Canadian prospect research professionals sought their educational opportunities at the annual APRA international conferences held in the United States. A benefit to this conference attendance was the resulting networking and ongoing discussions about the need for prospect research content that recognized the geographic, cultural, political, and legal realities of Canada. It was in 1998, that the first Canadian content appeared at the 11th annual APRA International Conference in San Antonio, TX. The session, led by three Canadian prospect research professionals, was entitled “The Canadian Perspective”, and was categorized in the Special Constituencies conference stream.

A greater milestone was accomplished in 2000, when the first Canadian prospect research professional was elected to the APRA Board of Directors. With this newfound Board representation a vibrant group of Canadian prospect research professionals undertook the application and chapter approval process. Finally, the APRA Canada Chapter became a reality when the APRA Board sanctioned it on March 2, 2001."
